2014 Nanjing Workshop on Structure-Preserving
Algorithms for Differential Equations
(November 28--30, 2014, Nanjing)
Description:
This workshop is dedicated to Professor Kang Feng on the thirtieth anniversary of his pioneering study on symplectic algorithms. His profound work, which opened up a rich new field of research, is of great importance to numerical mathematics in China, and the influence of his seminal contributions has spread throughout the world.
In the past three decades, need for structure-preserving algorithms, also called geometric integration, for the important classes of differential equations arises in such fields of applied sciences as mechanics, astronomy, theoretical physics, molecular dynamics, engineering etc. The basic idea of structure-preserving algorithms is that numerical algorithms should conserve as much as possible the qualitative behavior of the original continuous systems.
This workshop is aimed at bringing together brilliant scientists with overlapping interests in structure-preserving algorithms for differential equations. Our main purpose is to encourage exchange of new ideas and stimulate new collaboration in this area of computational mathematics.
